The Faculty of Computer Science at the University of Stuttgart has a broad range of offerings. As a result, we offer our students courses in all areas of computer science and cover nearly all research fields.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The faculty of Computer Science, Electrical and Information Technology has recently established an "international service point" for all international students of the department, as well as for advising students on semesters abroad. This service point joins all the faculty's forces for internationalisation and provides international students with optimal support and advice. The service point is also used for data collection, which serves as the basis for the internationalisation strategy of the faculty, and thus also of the Department of Computer Science.

Special features regarding the equipment

Several student tutorial and work rooms are available for students in the buildings of the Department of Computer Science. In particular, the department offers two large CIP pools which are equipped with modern PC workstations, and which can also be linked to the computer centre at the university, as well as (as part of Bachelor's and/or Master's theses) to the HLRS high-performance computing centre if necessary. The technical equipment is state-of-the-art. The seminar rooms and lecture theatres are equipped with projectors.

Special features regarding research activities

The department is always included at the top of the list in third-party funding rankings (e.g. DFG ranking). Our research is compatible with other disciplines. We are involved in the Cluster of Excellence SimTech, the graduate school GSaME, four collaborative research centres as well as one BMBF research centre. Strengths of the content: include visualisation, cloud computing, pervasive and ubiquitous computing, computer linguistics, and reliable systems. Many international research projects are carried out in Dept. Computer Science, which students can participate in. There are partnerships with many companies.

Other special features

The department has a very active student organisation, which addresses all the needs of students and represents the students' opinions in university committees. The Informatik-Forum Stuttgart (Computer Science Forum Stuttgart) (info) is a society which promotes Computer Science at the Universität Stuttgart. The primary aim is to strengthen the field of Computer Science and the new academic generation, as well as the structure and expansion of relations between science and industry, focussing on the region of Stuttgart.
