Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

The faculty offers a wide range of in-depth study opportunities in the fields of Algebra and Geometry, Analysis, Applied and Numerical Mathematics and Stochastics, which is of interest in the three Master's courses in particular. The number of possible fields of application is also large due to the wide range of courses offered at KIT. The Master's course in Business Mathematics is offered in conjunction with the Faculty of Economics. The training in the teaching qualification benefits from a very good link to schools due to the school pupil laboratory.

Special features regarding the international orientation

There are cooperations with 24 foreign universities as part of the Erasmus programme. In recent years, exchanges with Cardiff, Stockholm, Linköping, Leuwen, Rennes and Oslo have been the most popular. In addition, there are many international cooperations on an individual level worldwide. The Ecole Polytechnique Palaiseau (France) offers the option of a double degree. The Master´s degree programme in Mathematics is taught entirely in English.

Exchange universities for stay abroads

École Polytechnique Fédérale (EPF) Lausanne, Schweiz; Université Grenoble Alpes, Frankreich; Grenoble INP, Frankreich; KU Leuven, Belgien; Université Catholique de Louvain, Belgien; Universidad de Valencia, Spanien; Universitetet i Oslo, Norwegen; Debreceni Egyetem, Ungarn; Uniwersytet Kazimierza Wielkiego w Bydgoszczy, Polen; Linköpings Universitet, Schweden; Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan (KTH), Schweden; Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen, Niederlande

Special features regarding the equipment

The faculty has approx. 20 seminar rooms with whiteboards and projectors for research and teaching. There is also a lecture room that is suitable for internet conferences. In addition, the faculty has two computer rooms for computer training. At the KIT, a number of mathematical software licenses are freely available to students (Maple, MathLAB, etc.). All rooms are fully accessible.

Special features regarding research activities

The research activities in the department encompass many areas of mathematics. Three main subjects: Partial Differential Equations; Geometry, Groups and Topology; Stochastic Models; Collaborative Research Centre for Wave Phenomena with Integrated Research Training Group; Research Training Group in Geometry/Topology; In addition, many projects are carried out either individually or with colleagues from other faculties and other universities around the world.. The KIT Centre "MathSEE" (Mathematics in Sciences, Engineering and Economics) has been integrating interdisciplinary mathematical research at KIT since October 2018.

Other special features

All faculties are housed on a traditional campus; Excellently equipped specialist library with 90 study spaces available to students. An additional approx. 180 study spaces are also available in the building.
