Special features regarding teaching

There is a first-class range of basic subjects in Freiburg. A reference to European and international law is established in all courses. The faculty's excellent lecturers are supported in the specialisations by top-class lawyers from practice who hold top positions in the judiciary, administration and business. Thanks to partnerships and excellent relationships with faculties around the world, Freiburg students can spend time at top universities abroad.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The faculty has many international exchange programmes. Contacts in France are particularly close. The German-French double Master’s with the University of Strasbourg is unique. The tri-national EUCOR Master’s additionally brings Swiss law into play. In preparation, lecturers from France introduce French law at the French Law School; Afterwards a bi-national doctorate is possible. You can study abroad at the Chinese University of Political Science and Law (Beijing). Teams in the faculty participate in international moot courts.

Special features regarding the equipment

All modern tools for digital and hybrid teaching are available in the faculty. The departmental library has modern equipment and provides access to all relevant legal databases.

Special features regarding research activities

Broad and high-calibre coverage of all areas of legal research. Some of the focus areas are fundamental questions of constitutional law, digitalisation and sustainability. Research is characterised by a strong reference to basic research and a comparative law perspective. There is close cooperation with the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Crime, Security and Law (Freiburg).

Support for founders

Students can attend Freiburg Legal Clinics to learn more about specific issues regarding start-ups, M&A and similar issues. There are frequent presentations by lawyers on relevant topics. Conversely, the association ProBono Studentische Rechtsberatung e.V. (Pro Bono Student Legal Advice), which is closely affiliated with Legal Clinics, can advise on individual questions specific to starting a business. Advice is provided by a team of students. The association is supported by lawyers in Freiburg.

Other special features

The Faculty of Freiburg has a particularly qualified, stimulating and fruitful university study and research environment. Freiburg graduates achieve excellent exam results with a low failure rate; they are significantly above the state average and finish in the top group nationwide. There are excellent opportunities to study for a PhD and outstanding career prospects due to excellent training.
