Special features regarding teaching

In the degree programme towards the Bachelor’s degree in education, a stronger focus is placed on the topics of pedagogical fields of action and pedagogical diagnostics as well as on the implementation of research projects. Courses are also characterised by a blend of practical relevance and research orientation. A unique selling point for the this academic discipline is the interdisciplinary empirical investigation of teaching, learning and educational processes as well as educational histories from early childhood to adulthood in different institutional contexts.

Special features regarding research activities

The scientific discipline is instrumental in the K2teach projects funded by the BMBF (‘Qualitätsoffensive Lehrerbildung’). In addition, there are a large number of international cooperations that have led to participations in international alliances. These include the EU programmes Horizon 2020 (project ISOTIS: ‘Inclusive Education and Social Support to Tackle Inequalities in Society’) and FP7 (Project CARE: ‘Curriculum Quality Analysis and Impact Review of European ECEC’). Cooperations: Among other things IQB Berlin, LIfBi in Bamberg, IPN Kiel & DIE in Bonn.

Support for founders

Freie Universität Berlin has set up a central point of contact for this purpose.

Other special features

This discipline includes emphases in general education, teaching and school research, primary school research as well as extra-curricular education with a total of 19 fields of work. With projects and publications on teaching and learning conditions, early-childhood education, heterogeneity as well as school research and empirical education and university research, this academic discipline is the fundamental discipline of the ‘Educational processes and results’ knowledge alliance at Freie Universität Berlin.
