Special features regarding teaching

With more than 1,000 students and 14 departments, the institute is one of the largest in Germany. Research focuses: Psychobiology of stress, cognitive neuroscience, psychotherapy research, competence development, giftedness, diagnostics, work and digitisation. Numerous national and international collaborations. Focus on basic and application-oriented teaching supported by various departmental institutions, including university outpatient clinics, laboratories (EEG, psychophysiology, virtual reality), test archive.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The department participates in the Erasmus programme. There are partnerships with a wide range of international higher education institutions. Opportunity for a cross-border degree programme, research and collaborations as part of the ‘University of the Greater Region’ university network .

Special features regarding the equipment

The department has a large number of experimental psychology laboratories, a multi-sensor laboratories, psycho-physiological laboratories (also for children and adolescents), a psycho-physiological stress laboratory, a genetics laboratory and a virtual reality laboratory. Students are involved in all laboratories as academic assistants and in qualification papers.

Special features regarding research activities

Many research projects are internationally oriented. Two of many examples: The Institute of Psychobiology runs joint research projects together with the Luxembourg Institute of Health. The European Centre for Psychotherapy and Psychotherapy Research conducts research in close cooperation with numerous institutes throughout Europe. Basic research groups also cooperate closely with institutions focusing on applied research. One example of this is the research association for traffic engineering and traffic safety which cooperates with general psychology.

Support for founders

The Entrepreneurs’ Office at the University of Trier and at the Trier University of Applied Sciences offers itself as a contact for the topic of academic start-ups. Students, researchers and alumni can receive information and advice there.

Other special features

The Leibniz Institute for Psychology (ZPID) as a central, supra-regional infrastructure for psychology in German-speaking countries.
