Special features regarding teaching

Close linkage of different areas of psychology (including through joint modules in the new M.Sc. in Psychology: Research & Application). Strong empirical-experimental orientation, broad-based diagnostic training. New B.Sc.-M.Sc. combination compliant with licensing provisions. Participation in the M.Sc. in Cognitive and Integrative System Neurosciences and in the M.A. in Peace and Conflict Research. Seminar, computer and laboratory rooms under a single roof; further teaching rooms within walking distance. Ensuring very high-quality teaching through Teaching Week, Open AE Door Days.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Strongly international orientation in the promotion of junior academics. Numerous opportunities to stay abroad during the degree programme.

Special features regarding the equipment

The department has a virtual reality lab for realistic simulations of environments and measurements of reactions (full-body motion capture, even in the subject’s natural surroundings). Multiple eye-tracking and EEG laboratories.

Special features regarding research activities

Numerous current third-party-funded research projects relating to the psychological disciplines represented in the department, both in basic (often experimental research approaches) and applied research. Alexander von Humboldt Professorship in Translational Clinical Psychology. Close research cooperation with the departments of Medicine, Pharmacology and Physics. Cooperations in numerous regional, national and international interdisciplinary collaborative research projects, participation in large multicentre studies, especially in psychotherapy research.

Other special features

University and training clinics for outpatient treatment in psychotherapy (adults, children and adolescents) enrich practice-oriented instruction (case seminars, among other things) and permit overall qualification through the degree programme, postgraduate training in psychotherapy and further academic qualification. BRAIN advice centre for the gifted (since 1999).
