Special features regarding teaching

Our courses of study attach great importance to high-quality instruction. That is why we use a variety of innovative courses and methods in adult education (e.g. project-based learning, learning diary, portfolio) to effectively support students in acquiring professional skills. You will also gain insights into future professional fields from people with practical experience. We regularly optimise our courses based on evaluations. We also incorporate findings from our own research into our instruction.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The institute is part of an international network. With regard to teaching, there are Erasmus exchange programmes (including in France, Spain and Finland). Through the EUCOR programme, students can participate in events organised by the Upper Rhine universities in France and Switzerland. The Institute's research has an international focus which is reflected in publications in international technical journals and presentations at international conferences. In addition, visiting academics in the humanities are regularly invited for exchange from other countries.

Special features regarding the equipment

The institute has very good IT infrastructure as well as the latest software for use in developing computer-based learning environments. Other seminar rooms of the institute are equipped with interactive whiteboards. There is also a lab room at the Institute for learning experiments, up-to-date software for carrying out experiments, an eye-tracker that can be used to research eye motion as well as video equipment to carry out observation studies.

Special features regarding research activities

The Institut für Erziehungswissenschaft explores the conditions, processes and results of teaching and learning within and outside educational institutions with the aim of contributing to an evidence-based approach in the analysis and promotion of people’s learning. Both (quasi-)experimental studies as well as field studies are used. We also develop instruments for measuring competencies of teachers and students. We also use our expertise to develop competence-oriented courses in all our degree programmes.
