Special features regarding teaching

Students can choose to take courses from across the university to address central questions & problems of various sub-disciplines of educational science & related social science disciplines and to deepen their theoretical, terminological and methodological knowledge. The practical offers career-oriented insights into the work fields of educational research and educational practice and scientific & professional knowledge and enables them to identify, classify and reflect on research & educational knowledge. Students are supervised.

Special features regarding the equipment

Members of the department have access to the resources of the State and University Library (SuUB) in Bremen – the largest and oldest academic library in Bremen. It provides numerous specialist databases for educational sciences and related disciplines.

Special features regarding research activities

The key research areas of the department can be divided into four areas: 1. Heterogeneity and social inequality research/educational participation research; 2. Early years educational research, research relating to the transition to primary school level; 3. School and teaching research, teaching and learning research; 4. Vocational training research. A special feature of the department is the possibility to bring together different fields of study and to involve students in current research projects of the department, which enables research-oriented learning from an intersectional perspective.

Support for founders

The partnership of department 12 with the Bremen university initiative for the promotion of entrepreneurial thinking, company start-ups and entrepreneurship (Bridge) is particularly important for the promotion of start-ups. BRIDGE is your point of contact for information on university business start-ups.

Other special features

The FB 12 study centre provides a special range of advisory and information services for students on all matters relating to their degree course. The study centre is also involved in improving the quality of teaching and learning as part of the quality management system at the University of Bremen.
