Special features regarding teaching

In all educational degree courses, the seminar is the predominant form of teaching with an upper limit of 35 participants. This creates space for tandems and work in small groups. This is complemented by the use of e-learning platforms across the board. The teaching focus is on digital media: The courses have such interesting titles as: "NeanderDigitaler? - Media pedagogical competence as a target dimension of media pedagogical action" or "Informal learning processes in digital settings: Cyber bullying, sexting and other phenomena".

Special features regarding the international orientation

The department has international research partnerships and is a member of the Society of the Learning Sciences. As part of this membership, students have the option to participate in (digital) congresses and individual guest lectures.

Special features regarding the equipment

Eduroam is available throughout the campus. 2 rooms are equipped with videoconferencing technology. All lecture halls and nearly all seminar rooms are equipped with a media panel, a ceiling-mounted digital projector, a projector screen and a sound system. There is a seminar room that contains only PC workstations. A mobile smart board is available. There are 10 Internet-enabled workstations and ‘media lounge’ with 10 tablet computers available for use in the departmental library. In addition, there is a free scanner with special software for use in processing scans.

Special features regarding research activities

The Institute offers a broad range of educational research which focuses in its core on the question of learning different perspectives and can be bundled into three research focuses: Systematic, historical and international comparative basic research; The pedagogical-psychological exploration of learning processes; Research into non-formal and informal learning processes, especially with regard to digital media.

Support for founders

Educational Science students also have the option to take business start-up courses in the economics faculty (supplementary modules in the M.A. 1-subject educational science). In addition, the WORLDFACTORY supports interested parties on their way to setting up their own companies with free advice, seminars, rooms and a taster workshop.
