Special features regarding teaching

The entire spectrum of the subject is covered in teaching in both the Bachelor's and Master's degree courses. After a sound basic education, students are very quickly capable of working with a strong academic approach; Emphasis is placed on independent work and on presenting results (attendance at two seminars, results of Bachelor's thesis are presented in an oral examination at the end of the course). The care of the students is just as important as the quality of teaching, which is demonstrated by various prizes for good teaching.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Thanks to our Faculty’s international partnerships, students can spend a semester/year abroad at one of the excellent partner universities in Europe or the USA. Our English-language Master's programmes with around a quarter of foreign students and the internationally oriented doctoral programme of the Munich Graduate School of Economics are also an integral part of the faculty's international orientation. All teaching staff have international experience and contacts,; which make it easier for students to spend time abroad.

Exchange universities for stay abroads

University of California, Berkeley, USA; University of Wisconsin, Madison, USA; Higher School of Economics, Moskau/St. Petersburg, Russland; Peking University, Peking, China; University of Warwick, Warwick, UK; University of Copenhagen, Kopenhagen, Dänemark; University of Oslo, Oslo, Norwegen; Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona, Spanien; Universita di Bologna, Bologna, Italien; Stockholm University, Stockholm, Schweden.

Special features regarding the equipment

The technical facilities are very good. Each student has the opportunity to take advantage of the varied courses. For the advanced courses, training in empirical work generally takes place on a computer. Students have access to the Economics & Business Data Centre (EBDC) (joint platform for databases at economics faculties at the LMU and ifo Institute), to the DICE database (Database for Institutional Comparisons in Europe) at the ifo Institute as well as the Faculty’s database “Datastream – Macroeconomic Analysis”.

Special features regarding research activities

The Economics Faculty of the LMU Munich is a worldwide recognised teaching and research unit. Its profile is characterised by a strong theoretical foundation, a clear application focus and the emphasis on empirical analysis in the form of experimental and econometric research. The entire spectrum of the subject is covered in teaching in both the Bachelor's and Master's courses. The faculty is among the very best in Germany and Europe. It is the voice for one of the few collaborative research areas in Economics.

Support for founders

The links between the Faculty and the LMU Entrepreneurship Centre enable students to develop start-up ideas and obtain advice about the implementation.

Other special features

The faculty does not only score top positions in various research rankings. The high standard of education provided can be seen repeatedly in the Wirtschaftswoche rankings. HR managers from a range of large companies (and corporations with over 1,000 employees) and small companies (10 or more employees) name the Economics degree at LMU as a TOP educator: Human resource managers prefer to hire our graduates.
