Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

Extensive range of options as early as the Bachelors degree programme; E-learning courses are offered on a regular basis; Extensive counselling through strong links between subject-specific student advice office and many other advice offices; very good cooperation between students and teaching staff, e.g. in committees; very committed and skilled departmental student organisation; individual planning and monitoring of academic progress available from specialist adviser. Courses covering the latest topics are offered on a regular basis. At the moment, these include sustainability topics, digital tools, and the use of AI.

Special features regarding teaching in the master's programmes

Research-oriented teaching and focus on scientific work, in particular through individual internships in the working group on topics of current research and development, which exposes students to selected current key topics of (chemical) research.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Master's degree course in Chemistry taught in English; In some cases, elective modules are also offered in English as part of the Bachelor's degree programme; All final theses (including Bachelor's theses) can be written in English as well as documentation on research-oriented internships in the working groups; Various partnerships with international universities that facilitate student mobility (e.g. Erasmus+); Financial support for stays abroad and competent specialist advice with regard to the recognition and transfer of credits.

Special features regarding the equipment

State-of-the-art equipment and new large-scale laboratories, regular high investments in technical and experimental equipment; Partially modularised laboratory facilities, which allow for sequential or parallel implementation of various types of practical training.

Special features regarding research activities

The department conducts recognised cutting-edge research on globally relevant key topics and technologies of the future. The Cluster of Excellence "Battery Research" has been a part of the Department of Chemistry since 2018, and especially in this context, the Department has been able to network with other universities, research institutions and renowned industries outside of the University of Ulm.

Other special features

Degree-courses offered by the Department of Chemistry are accredited until 2027 as part of the system accreditation through the internal accreditation procedure of the University of Ulm.
