Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

The courses at Universität Konstanz are organised in the form of integrated courses which each are made up of closely coordinated lectures, exercises, practicals and seminars. This interdisciplinary course system is highly research and practice-related and provides an insight into all aspects of Chemistry. Students can choose an elective focus during their bachelor's degree studies. The tutor model at Universität Konstanz also provides intensive mentor support.

Special features regarding teaching in the master's programmes

The chemistry master's degree programme focuses on in-depth, research-oriented courses on inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry as well as the faculty's research priorities, particularly in the life sciences and materials sciences. Graduates of this degree programme acquire a modern research qualification profile.

Special features regarding the international orientation

During the Bachelor's and Master's courses, students are trained for a future career in international research. Although the lectures in the Bachelor's degree course are conducted in German, increasing reference is made to English specialist literature during the course. The Master's degree programme was switched completely to English as the language of instruction. Thanks to numerous Erasmus partner universities, students have the option of studying abroad. In order to finance this, students can apply for one of the many available grants.

Special features regarding the equipment

The work placements for the training in the Bachelor's and Master's courses are equipped to the most modern standards. An annual budget is available for acquisitions/replacements. It benefits all students. The equipment includes modern research laboratories which enable current research into preparative inorganic and organic synthesis, biomolecules, polymers, solids and even the study of living cells. Available databases include SciFinder, Web of Science, Reaxys.

Special features regarding research activities

Research focuses in Chemistry at Universität Konstanz range from modern Life Sciences topics to current Materials Sciences issues. A special feature of research at Universität Konstanz is the high degree of interdisciplinarity and the ability to use state-of-the-art equipment in the research and analysis labs. The department fosters a culture that allows the equipment of individual work groups to be used by everyone. Important methods are combined in central institutions.

Other special features

Studies at Universität Konstanz feature a favourable supervision ratio of professors to students, avoiding anonymity. The "open door" policy of the professors means that students are welcome to raise any issues at any time.
