Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

The Chemistry degree programme in Erlangen is characterised by high academic demands and the close supervision of students. This applies to both the personal contact between teaching staff and students as well as the support by student tutors and the individual guidance our students receive from the study coordinator, the dean of students and the Student Service Centre. Carefully coordinated and timed semester curricula are offered for the extensive number of courses. Examination dates are coordinated.

Special features regarding teaching in the master's programmes

The master's degree programme has a large number of modules that can be selected and studied individually and flexibly. This allows students to choose different focal points during their studies. Students can also choose a broad chemical education. Because of the strong research focus in advanced laboratory internships, the master's degree programme provides deep insights into practical scientific work.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The international orientation of the Departments is reflected both in the worldwide cooperation with numerous international research institutions, the many international guest lecturers, as well as the intensive cooperation with the University of Wollongong and Shenzen. Based on the Master's courses in Chemistry and Molecular Science, a dual degree M.Sc. programme is offered with the University of Wollongong (Australia). In addition, the department has many Erasmus partnerships with internationally renowned universities.

Special features regarding the equipment

The Department of Chemistry in Erlangen is equipped with state-of-the-art scientific equipment that meets the highest standards in teaching and research. This includes state-of-the-art, large-scale devices which are continuously expanded and supplemented with new acquisitions, e.g. NMR, high-pressure NMR, EPR, dual-source X-ray diffractometer, UHV-SEM/STM, SQUID, various photoelectron spectroscopes, X-ray microscopes, TGA-MS, Raman spectroscopy/microscopy, electron microscope, femtosecond spectroscopy, high-performance computing, computer clusters. The new "Chemikum" building with state-of-the-art laboratories opened in 2017.

Special features regarding research activities

Involvement in numerous interdisciplinary research associations, e.g. in Collaborative Research Centre 953 "Synthetic Carbon Allotropes", Collaborative Research Centre 1452 "Catalysis at Liquid Interfaces" (CLINT-Catalysis at Liquid Interface, Cluster of Excellence Engineering of Advanced Materials, Interdisciplinary Centre for Molecular Materials, Centre for Interface-Controlled Processes, Erlangen Catalysis Centre, Central Institute for New Materials; Numerous international collaborations; Project of the German Research Foundation (DFG):; Cooperation with the Helmholz Institute HIERN.

Other special features
