Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

The special feature of the teaching of the bachelor's degree in chemistry lies in the individual supervision of students during all phases of the programme, in the early introduction to the English language, and the involvement of students in current research in the institutes. Supplemental academic activities in the form of internships and tutorials allows students to have active experiences at an early stage in addition to class learning.

Special features regarding teaching in the master's programmes

The English-language Master's degree programme in chemistry is an international degree programme that specifically trains students for the global chemical labour market and international research. The Master's degree programme focuses on practical research with many research internships which take place in institutes run by the Chemistry Faculty, related engineering sciences institutes, or industry institutes. We offer a wide range of opportunities for studying abroad as part of the chemistry degree programme on the basis of cooperation agreements with European and non-European universities.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Almost half of students at Technische Universität Clausthal come from abroad and the Chemistry department is also highly international in nature. Numerous cooperation agreements with foreign universities give students the opportunity to complete work placements project work or other courses abroad. The Bachelor's degree is taught partially in English and the Master's degree in Chemistry is an English degree course. Bachelor's theses, Master's theses, project work and specialisation practicals can be worked on as part of international research projects.

Special features regarding the equipment

The Department of Chemistry at TU Clausthal has a modern equipment pool with research apparatus and large-scale equipment, and students are taught how to use this equipment in the course of their studies. Much of this equipment is available for use during practicals so that students also gain valuable experience in how to use the equipment in practice, including the necessary maintenance work.

Special features regarding research activities

Research and teaching at the Clausthal University of Technology focuses on the overarching topic of the circular economy. The focus is on sustainable energy systems, raw material security and resource efficiency, novel materials and processes, and Clausthal Dept. of Chemistry makes essential contributions to this. Students participate successfully in bachelor's theses, master's theses and other projects, with topics ranging from functionalised polymers, intelligent materials and switchable molecules to modifications of biological surfaces and modern analytical methods.
