Special features regarding the international orientation

RWTH is known for its many interdisciplinary and international projects and partnerships. These allow students to gain international experience early on in their studies, e.g. as part of research internships abroad.

Special features regarding the equipment

As a subject with a significant focus on experimentation, chemistry requires the latest technical equipment. Up-to-date and internationally competitive teaching and research cannot be conducted without such equipment. Chemistry at RWTH Aachen can offer this thanks to consistent replacement and acquisition of the latest large-scale, scientific devices in the past years.

Special features regarding research activities

Strategic cooperations have been established with the DWI Leibniz Institute for Interactive Materials, the Jülich Research Centre, the Helmholtz Institute Münster and the Max Planck Institutes for Chemical Energy Conversion and for coal research in Mülheim an der Ruhr. Research at the Department of Chemistry is focused on four key areas: Synthesis, Catalysis and Processes; Functional and Bioactive Molecules; Complex Functional Materials; New methods for the theoretical understanding and clarification of structures and dynamic processes.
