Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

As the main focus is the acquisition of experimental skills, there are already many lab practicals at the start of studies; modern practical rooms with individual workstations for each student and no waiting times for lab practicals; Individual supervision by the teaching staff; issues relating to professional practice are taught in the course by e.g. university teachers who work both at the university and in external research institutes.

Special features regarding teaching in the master's programmes

The master's programme offers a wide range of options for specialising in a number of elective courses; The focus in Jena, too is on acquiring additional experimental skills.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Final theses can be completed at internationally focused research institutions with English as the laboratory language (e.g. Max Planck institutes, Leibniz Institutes); Possibility of spending a semester abroad via the ERASMUS programme; Universität Jena offers exchanges with approx. 180 partner universities from 27 countries; several courses in the Master's courses are taught in English.

Special features regarding the equipment

Three new buildings with modern laboratories; Modern equipment is available for all common measurement techniques, students are introduced to these measurement techniques early on their in academic studies, for example, in the context of advanced internships or final theses.

Special features regarding research activities

Bachelor's, Master's and doctoral topics are assigned within the context of current research projects; high proportion of research projects with third-party funding (e.g. European Union, German Research Foundation (DFG), companies from industry, BMBF, BMWi).
