Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

Chemistry and biochemistry at FU Berlin is characterised by strong networking with the Berlin research community. At the department there is a high degree of academic cooperation with other departments (joint projects). There are collaborations with several non-university research institutions. Although these links are focused on the international Master's degree course, they also benefit the Bachelor's degree course. Students already discover at the start of the course that Chemistry research is international and interdisciplinary in nature.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Through the international Master's degree course and diverse research collaborations worldwide, students (especially those on the Master's degree course) are provided with a wide variety of opportunities for a stay abroad during their studies, which is fully recognised. FU Berlin provides organisational and financial support for these measures.

Special features regarding the equipment

At the Department of Biology, Chemistry and Pharmacy there is an equipment centre (led by the Institute of Chemistry and Biochemistry) providing state-of-the-art measurement techniques to all work groups and thus also the students for their research work. As a result, you will already be introduced to the latest scientific measurement techniques during the Master's degree course, and ideally as early as the Bachelor's thesis stage.

Special features regarding research activities

The Institute of Chemistry and Biochemistry takes a leading role in a Collaborative Research Centre in the field of Multivalency and a Research Training Group in the field of Fluorochemistry. The nanoscale focus area in collaboration with Physics provides an introduction to nanoscale functional materials. Links to the Institute of Pharmacy are established via a Collaborative Research Centre in the field of Nanocarriers for Therapeutic Applications. Joint research initiatives with non-university research institutions strengthen research. Participation in the BMBF-funded transfer room GreenCHEM.
