An extensive range of courses in 5 disciplines (Political Science, Sociology, Social/Cultural Psychology, Social Economics, Methodology) and a great freedom of choice offer many opportunities for individual specialisations. Outstanding training in quantitative and qualitative methods, work on one's own research projects in the empirical module, supportive tutorials from the outset and numerous Erasmus collaborations distinguish this degree programme. Good insights into practical work through integrated work placement with course on professional fields, career strategies and industry expert events.

Special features regarding teaching in the master's programmes

By choosing one of the 5 innovative study programmes, students can opt for a profile that suits their interests, but also their career plans. At the same time, expansion and supplementary modules enable individual specialisations. This degree programme is characterised by the unique combination of research-oriented and application-oriented teaching, teaching research and project studies as well as various international double-degree options.

Special features regarding the equipment

The faculty has several computer rooms in which students learn hands-on the techniques of computational social science such as web scraping, programmes such as R or Python, or the benefit of georeferenced data. The seminar rooms are suitable for virtual exchange formats, and the large faculty library also has available numerous individual workspaces and group learning rooms. In their first semester, students are familiarised with the use of digital databases in the introductory tutorial. The Methodology Centre provides support to acquire data proficiency.

Research focuses: Jurisdiction; Labour and Law; Crisis, conflict, criticism; Space and social inequality; social transformation of the digital; International Dynamics. 7 DFG projects, participation in CRC alliances, among others: Invited mobilization? Interest organizations, experts, and lawmaking in the German parliament; Digital transformation of the legal professions? Practices and regulatory paths of digitalisation in the legal system; Digitalisation and Automation of Public Administration; Urban border areas; Diversity Assent in Urban Germany; Data centres as an infrastructure for virtual living environments.
