Special features regarding teaching

The special feature of the course is our study model "The Core Principle" - Competence Oriented Research and Education ". This model focuses on active and independent learning. It combines skills, knowledge and a joy of learning. The success factors of the CORE principle are topic-centred five-week blocks, activating teaching / learning methods, competence-oriented types of examination, best employability, personal responsibility of the students, educational partnerships, innovation and research as well as the competence model.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Business lawyers work in an international and interdisciplinary context. The Business Law degree programme is therefore embedded in an international network of universities. To instil international and cross-cultural skills in students, a semester abroad at a European partner university has been included as an integral part of the degree programme. A fixed time window for an optional study abroad is made possible. In addition, an integrated study tour with both professional and intercultural preparation is offered in the Master's programme.

Exchange universities for stay abroads

Southern Illinois University, USA; Nottingham Trent University, England; Linköping University, Schweden; Mykolas-Romeris-University, Litauen; Nationale Iwan Franko Universität, Lemberg, Ukraine; Huazhong University of Science&Technology, China; Hogeschool Utrecht, Niederlande; University of Cádiz, Cádiz, Spain; Alma Mater Studiorum - Universitá di Bologna, Bologna, Italien.

Special features regarding the equipment

Access to the legal databases Juris and Beck-Online is provided. Specific databases and programmes (SPSS) can be used for empirical work. The university also provides computer rooms. In addition, several classrooms have been equipped with the technology for hybrid teaching-learning settings to enable participation and access for all students during the coronavirus pandemic. The technology is still used as part of a blended learning concept.

Special features regarding research activities

The cross-faculty research project “Strengthening (Self) Motivation (Ability) as a Central Future Skill Using Digital Teaching-Learning Formats” and the research on the inverted classroom and e-didactics are worthy of mention. There is a research project on the topic of “Reform of General Partnership Law”, "Parenting as Discrimination", "Care Law" as well as "ESG and Sustainability Law".

Support for founders

Courses on Entrepreneurship are an integral part of the Business Law degree course. In addition to the degree course, a law clinic for advising Start-ups was founded in cooperation with the university founding institute. Here, students can follow legal issues of university start-ups under expert guidance and supervision of a university professor. Students can also gain practical experience on entrepreneurship and start-ups at the Entrepreneurship Lab of the Entrepreneurship Institute.

Other special features

It is possible for LGBTQI+ students to be registered under their chosen first name in the student administration without any official name change or bureaucratic red tape. In addition, we are part of the LGBTQI+ network Baden-Württemberg.
