Special features regarding teaching

The degree courses in the Mechatronics Department have always been characterised by a high proportion of activating forms of teaching and student mentoring programmes. Project seminars with openly formulated issues as well as work on current topics from the fields of research and industry, in the context of at times interdisciplinary projects, have a long tradition. The numerous rooms of the departments involved, etit and Mechanical Engineering, for student learning centres and computer workstations, with design and simulation software are available to the discipline of mechatronics.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Information events and "International" consultation hours: Verified processes for information, support for outgoing and incoming students, recognition of credits from exchange programmes, numerous double degrees and exchange programmes, internationalisation officer in participating departments; Leave semester during participation in exchange programmes possible; International project work; Research partnerships with a large number of foreign universities. Mentoring programmes and individual support help students integrate effectively into the degree system.

Special features regarding the equipment

TUCaN (campus management software) as a central, digital system for organising courses and examinations at Technical University of Darmstadt. The University and State Library provides access to scientific databases and standards. State-of-the-art multimedia pools, several learning centres, wind tunnel, airfield, process learning factory CiP (lean production, Lean 4.0,...), ETA factory (large-scale research equipment for research + teaching in the field of energy efficiency, energy flexibility and resource efficiency in industrial production) as well as two cleanroom laboratories in the field of micro- and nanotechnology.

Special features regarding research activities

The etit and Mechanical Engineering departments are among the three major departments at TU Darmstadt and have a very high proportion of externally funded research projects. Be it basic research or industrial contracts: The focus is on the application of scientific methods to practice-relevant issues - and the early involvement of young scientists. For example, the department is responsible for a DFG Collaborative Research Centre and several ERC grants.

Support for founders

Students have multiple modules and lecture cycles in the field of entrepreneurship available to them as part of the curriculum. The Innovation and Start-up Centre at the Technical University of Darmstadt provides support services such as assistance in the development of business models, the search for investors and suitable support programmes such as the EXIST Start-up Scholarship. In recent years, five start-ups have been established from the etit faculty alone.

Other special features

The central location of Technical University of Darmstadt in the Rhine-Main area and the central location of the study area in the centre of Darmstadt lead to outstanding accessibility in comparison with other sites. In recent years, the Technical University of Darmstadt has carried out comprehensive renovation measures, which have significantly improved study conditions.
