Further information provided by the department

Special features regarding teaching

One degree - two professions! Our graduates are both Engineers and Business Economists in one. They combine technical and commercial skills and are therefore ideally prepared for management tasks in technically demanding projects. You can specialise from the 6th semester onwards - you can choose from three specialisation areas. Compulsory elective areas in the 6th and 7th semester further round off the personal profile. The degree course has very good business contacts for excursions, internships etc. Lecturers from the business world deal with current practical topics.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Different sub modules can be offered in English if required.

Exchange universities for stay abroads

Northumbria University in Newcastle, UK; Institute of Technology Carlow, Irland; University of Limerick, Irland; Institute of Technology Limerick, Irland; Institute of Technology Tralee, Irland; FH Kufstein Tirol, Österreich; Yasar University Izmir, Türkei; Universidad del Pais Vasco, Spanien; Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, Spanien; University of the Sunshine Coast, Australia.

Special features regarding the equipment

All the customary testing equipment for analysing the most important material and component characteristics, modern scanning electron microscope (SEM), micro-range analysis (EDX), modern light microscopy and image analysis, CNC universal milling machine, x-ray machines with goniometers; ultrasound experimental kit; Wave machine; Wind tunnel, 3D printer, software application SolidWorks for learning CAD, programming and building robots with LEGO Mindstorms, Excel VBA programming.

Support for founders

Integrative project laboratory: Groups of students simulate start-ups as part of the course "Integrative Project Laboratory". According to a given task, they build and program a prototype of a robot and create a business plan for their start-up and their product. At the final presentation, they try to convince investors to invest in their start-up on a simulated exhibition stand.

Other special features

The course is offered in three study models: As a classic full-time course, as a "cooperative study model" and as "study with in-depth practice". The cooperative study model combines shortened vocational training (skilled worker training) and full-time study, the entire time is paid. Three apprenticeships are possible: Industrial Clerk (m / f / d), Electronics Technician (m / f / d) or Mechatronic Technician (m / f / d). When studying with more in-depth practice, students gain practical experience in a company during their full-time study, during the semester break.
