Special features regarding teaching

Project and research-oriented teaching even in the Bachelor's degree. Laboratory internships and exercises in small groups possible. Numerous specialisation options in technical and business areas. Very good professor-student ratio. When completing their work, students are involved in current research projects. Quality assurance concept to improve teaching.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Support for completion of a Bachelor's thesis, student research project and Master's thesis abroad via the contacts of professors and lecturers. The phases of the compulsory elective modules offer students the option of spending part of the course abroad without needing to extend the period of study. Teaching and learning agreements are concluded in advance for this purpose. Foreign work placements can also be recognised for the compulsory placements. Students are supported by the Erasmus officers. Modules held in English. Subject-specific courses offered by the Language Centre of the University of Rostock.

Excellently equipped labs (machine hall/machine lab, flow hall/flow lab, strength hall/structural mechanics lab, welding lab, lightweight construction lab, materials lab, etc.) and a research hall with state-of-the-art large-scale equipment (including vehicle and ship engine test benches, pressure tank, hydro-acoustic test bench, heavy-duty component testing system, 3D printers, welding robots, simulators); excellent computer equipment (wireless LAN access on campus, student computer clusters for exercises and self-study, access to extensive software licences); very well-equipped special library.

Immediate involvement of students in ongoing research projects for student work and as student assistants. Interdisciplinary research through cooperation with the interdisciplinary faculty of the University of Rostock and with non-university institutes, such as Fraunhofer Institute for Large Structures in Production Technology, Leibniz Institute for Catalysis e. V. Rostock, Leibniz Institute for Baltic Sea Research Warnemünde.
