Special features regarding teaching

Very large number of professors with practical experience in the lecture curriculum, which results in a wide and practice-oriented educational programme; Small groups (for lectures: 85 students, in exercises and labs: 20 students) with individual supervision; OPAL as an educational server for document management and e-learning resources; Integration of current business tasks into courses; Extensive use of lab practicals and simulation games; Basic SAP training; 1 of 9 specialisations can be chosen in Business Administration, 1 of 4 in Engineering ; Lectures held in English.

Special features regarding the international orientation

150 places at currently 78 international partner universities are open to students. Mobility windows are built into the degree courses to allow as many students as possible to study abroad. Language training is promoted in the curriculum right from the start of studies. The large number of visiting students contribute to student life and internationalisation. Close counselling/supervision/promotion of studies abroad is guaranteed by a well-staffed International Department. International summer schools enrich the international flavour.

Two computer labs with all MS Office products, incl. MS Project and MS Visio; Software for Monte Carlo simulations; Various SAP modules; software such as DATEV, Lexware and ARIS; Lab for occupational sciences; Lecture halls are state-of-the-art and also designed for small groups; Language centre with language lab; Modern library with reference-only stock and extensive electronic resources (e-books, e-journals and academic databases); Wireless campus network; HTW app for students; Lab for process and methodological skills.

Research fields, topics and focus areas are: The Centre for SMEs; The Research Area for Occupational Sciences; The Integration of ERP Systems in SMEs; Social Media Applications in Companies; Participation in the research projects of the other faculties such as Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering (e.g. Electromobility); Projects on the topic of Healthy Ageing at Work; Entrepreneurship Education; Research partnerships with Eastern European universities, the Industry Research Project Week.

Support for founders

The university's unique incubator "Gründungsschmiede" provides advice/coaching, also on spin-offs, support in taking on engineering offices, jobs, networking opportunities and events such as "Business Idea Slam". The Career Service also supports start-ups with special seminars and coaching. The "Centre for SMEs" organises fairs/networking meetings. Start-up courses such as "Practice of Setting up a Business" and "Start-up-oriented Business Administration" are integrated into teaching. We are also collaboration partners of dresden exists.

Other special features

The University of Applied Sciences Dresden (HTW) offers a compact campus in an attractive, convenient location in the heart of Dresden close to the main train station. The faculty enjoys close relationships with SMEs as well as with international partners in research, teaching and practice. In addition, events on current topics (e.g. sustainability, internationalisation, SMEs) are organised, including summer schools, lecture series, presentations. A social commitment to shaping the university, the city and social life is also possible and desirable as part of student committees.
