Special features regarding teaching

The course profile at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Transport Systems covers traditional mechanical engineering and the related engineering and scientific principles, a comprehensive insight into transportation including all transport service providers, infrastructure and planning, as well as human factors. Close links between research and teaching ensure that the students learn to apply the latest research findings in engineering applications.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The faculty maintains degree course collaborations with several European and non-European partner universities, amongst others the USA and Brazil. Double-degree agreements have also been concluded, for example with universities from France, Poland and China. Here, students complete half their studies at the foreign university and obtain a degree from both TU Berlin and the partner university. The faculty is also heavily involved in setting up the Engineering faculty at the Türkisch-Deutsche Universität (TDU).

Special features regarding the equipment

Machine tools/manufacturing engineering: 70 test benches and 7 associated specialised labs; flow test hall, various test benches: combustion chamber, engine, exhaust gas, brakes, boundary layer tunnels and wind tunnels (sub/supersonic, thermo, aeroelastics), micro gas turbine, TUBSAT satellite fleet, satellite ground station and position control test bench, flight control centre (being established), small research submarine; PC rooms with CAD simulation software.

Special features regarding research activities

Development and optimisation of future technical systems for the diverse requirements of civil society. This includes understanding and applying basic scientific and IT functions, developing and producing technical systems, the interaction between humans and technical systems and considering future requirements from human beings for technical systems and objects. Research and development from the fields of basic principles and application are combined with a wide spectrum of topics.

Other special features

Research and teaching are closely interlinked in the faculty, which means the latest engineering research topics can constantly be incorporated into the courses offered. A method and practice-based study programme prepares students for direct entry into professional life.
