Special features regarding teaching

A profile can be created in Mechanical Engineering through a demanding range of compulsory electives tailored to industry. Natural science and engineering principles are taught in the first two semesters. Subject-specific specialisation and profile creation occurs in the third and fourth semesters through at least three optional required modules from the fields of Construction and Production Engineering. An assessed practical phase takes place in the sixth semester; the Bachelor's thesis is also integrated in the practical phase.

The degree course has many laboratories including for Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Engineering, CAD/FEM, Machine Design Calculation including Tool Design, Manufacturing Measurement Technology, Quality Assurance, Factory planning, Work Planning.

Special features regarding research and development

A key research area of the university is Production Systems and Technologies: Energy Engineering, Production Engineering, Production Preparation, Thermal Process Engineering, CAD, Technical Mechanics, Finite Element Methods, Quality Management. Student projects and final theses are possible in these projects.

Other special features

Natural science, technical laboratories for school pupils, Physics Olympics, taster course, children’s university, start-up service and start-up network, creativity laboratory ViNN:Lab.
