Special features regarding teaching

Content of the textile degree courses: Virtual product development and simulation, industrial stitching, manufacturing and joining technology, textile engineering, textile testing and finishing, labour organisation, management, research and industry projects. In addition to classic clothing, you will work full-time or part-time with other textile products such as airbags or outdoor products. You learn with us in completely refurbished laboratories and lecture rooms with individual supervision and practice-oriented training, going on many excursions and visiting many trade fairs.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Already since 1990, an integrated study semester abroad is offered as an option. This is possible particularly at our partner universities in the United Kingdom, Sweden, the Czech Republic, South Africa and France. Students are offered special guidance to ensure optimum integration of modules completed abroad. Furthermore, all students have the opportunity to do the practical semester or write the final thesis worldwide. Students from foreign partner higher education institutions as well as guest lecturers from abroad contribute to internationalisation "at home".

Special features regarding the equipment

Due to the high practical component, students have access to modern laboratory equipment that meets industry standards. Through the close cooperation with industrial and research facilities, students can also work with safety-approved prototypes or new machines in the laboratories. Students can treat materials in the textile finishing laboratory and then learn the industrial production of textile products on more than 300 machines and assess them in the textile testing laboratory. The laboratories are open to students outside the courses and are supervised by experts.

Special features regarding research and development

It is possible to complete a cooperative doctorate as part of research projects. In addition, the degree course is the leader in interdisciplinary research in the field of Smart Textile and Microfactories. In addition, ongoing research projects on current issues related to the textile and clothing industry are carried out in cooperation with companies.

Support for founders

The focus on entrepreneurship ensures a continuous and wide range of events such as elevator pitches, start-up nights, etc. Student projects are supported via the Start2Research scheme. Close links with industry and joint research and development projects means that students are actively accompanied and supported by professors and 2 start-up managers from the university, from the initial idea to the foundation of the company. The local infrastructure is excellent and includes the technology workshop in Albstadt and the Innocamp in Sigmaringen as partners.

Other special features

The textiles and clothing industry is a globalised industry. We prepare the future specialists and managers of this industry in a former textile factory that has been equipped in the meantime with state-of-the-art equipment. The Albstadt location offers different disciplines and support in interdisciplinary collaboration which gives rise to innovative products with textile components – in a personal atmosphere with high practical relevance. Every year, a Science Slam is organised to teach scientific topics to an interested audience in a fun and entertaining way.
