Special features regarding teaching

Teaching of in-depth knowledge in Rubber Technology (lectures and laboratory practicals); Extensive laboratory practicals during the current semester in a wide variety of technical laboratories; Design exercises, project work and laboratory work in a team; High practical component through a pre-study work placement and an industrial work placement; Lecture series with lecturers from industry; Excursions to companies in the plastics and rubber industry; Visits to trade fairs/conferences; Bachelor's theses are generally carried out in companies in the plastics processing industry/institutes for plastics engineering.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Technical English as a compulsory subject; A practical semester can be completed abroad as well as the Bachelor's thesis.

Special features regarding the equipment

The degree course has numerous laboratories. The equipment meets a state-of-the-art technology standard and covers the entire development and processing process in Plastics and Elastomer Engineering. In addition to a diverse range of processing machines, this also includes laboratory devices for analysis and universal testing machines to analyse plastic materials. There are, for example, several injection moulding machines, a pipe extrusion system, a rubber injection press, a 3D printer, plastic welding machines, a rubber internal mixer and a scanning electron microscope, available to students for practical training.

Special features regarding research and development

Elastomer recycling: Investigations into the recycling of rubber products with the aim of upcycling, e.g. rubber powder from used tyres as a component in the blend for new tyres. The effect of rubber powder particles in rubber mixtures is analysed to obtain findings that can lead to improvement in the properties of the end product.
