Special features regarding teaching

Since the last survey, both the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree courses have been revised to be more up to date, attractive and customisable. In the Bachelor's degree course, 2 specialisations instead of 4 are now offered, from which 2 are taken. In the Master’s, 3 out of 5 specialisations were renewed from the ground up. Student feedback on this is very positive. The high degree of practical relevance of the curricula and the networking with regional companies, e.g. as part of company workshops or excursions to companies, are still special features.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The faculty-wide promotion of the international approach and the creation of a new faculty-wide International Officer led to an increase in outgoing numbers before the coronavirus pandemic. The range of compulsory elective subjects in English has been expanded and is being taken up. The doctoral programme with Northumbria University in Newcastle and double degree possibility with the University of Strasbourg still exist. New partner universities since last survey: MMU, Malaysia, and the Haute école d´ingénierie et d´architecture de Fribourg, Switzerland.

Exchange universities for stay abroads

Universidade Regional de Blumenau, Brasilien; Technical University of Varna, Bulgarien; University of Gävle, Schweden; Edinburgh Napier University, Schottland; Dublin Business School, Irland; University of Oulu, Finnland; University of Guadalajara, Mexico; Syddansk Universitet, Dänemark; Tecnológico de Monterrey, Mexico; Hong Kong Baptist University, Hongkong; Istanbul Technical University, Türkei; Kasetsart University, Thailand; The University of Northumbria at Newcastle, UK.

Special features regarding the equipment

Modern campus building; state-of-the-art IT equipment; Modern equipment in lecture halls; PC and learning room for students has been expanded with 4 docking stations; Remodelling and modernisation of the library; Enhanced lab landscape: New campus with a large robotics lab; RFID gate with RF680 equipment, 3D printer, digitalisation lean lab, VR Powerwall. Software tools (since the coronavirus pandemic, also usable via virtualised BW teaching pool): Index simulation software, S7, S4-HANA, CATIA, Abaqus.

Special features regarding research activities

Since the last faculty survey, a lot has happened, especially in the field of collaborative robotics. A separate institute has been established, the Work-Life Robotics Institute, which has since been given its own campus for the lab. It is financed by large-scale ZIM projects - Germany’s innovation programme for SMEs - with partner companies. Digital engineering was further expanded as a research focus area as part of a joint project with the University of Strasbourg. Digital logistics management has been established as a new research focus area with corresponding research projects.

Support for founders

Central services of the Career Centre for students who wish to be self-employed.; Faculty-specific support from a professor from the faculty.

Other special features

Since the last survey, all teaching and all lab exercises of the faculty have been digitalised as far as possible and offered online. Overall, the feedback from the students was extremely positive, because teaching started again 4 - 6 weeks after the lockdown. Keyword sustainability: A new specialisation in the Bachelor's degree course is called "Sustainable Corporate Management" with a focus on ESG management in companies. In the Master's degree course, the new subject "Globalised and Sustainable Production" and new module "Sustainable Logistics Management" were added.
