Special features regarding teaching

Accredited, consecutive general Mechanical Engineering degree course with dedicated, practically oriented teaching staff; Project work in the Team Shell Eco-Marathon is intensively supported from the first semester; A high number of laboratory practicals ensures application-related teaching; Cooperation with the Fraunhofer Application Centre on the premises of BASF in Schwarzheide ensures high-quality plastics practicals.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Students can already participate in excursions to partner universities in the Bachelor's degree course. Particularly to the directly adjacent universities Zielona Gora and TU Liberec. The fifth semester is a practical semester and a mobility phase at the same time. An international project is conducted together with Zielona Gora in the Master's degree course. In addition, students can learn Polish for engineers or attend a CAD workshop in Wroclaw or practicals at the TU Liberec. Professors of the neighbouring universities regularly hold lectures on the Senftenberg campus.

Special features regarding the equipment

There are four computer pools with the standard design software – Inventor and NX as well as FEM software – available to the mechanical engineering. In addition, there is a virtual machine tool and the necessary CNC Software. The laboratories available include Mechanics, Materials-Handling Technology, Piston and Flow Machines, Welding Technology, Materials Engineering and Metallography as well as a Laboratory for Machine Tools. Rounding out the facilities are two Laboratories for measurement technology. The special features include a 3D waterjet cutting system, 3D scanner, 3D printing, a carrier rollers test bench, an acoustic camera, etc.

Special features regarding research and development

Students are included in projects related to Joint Technology and Tribology, in the study of structured thin metals, FEM calculations, additive manufacturing and carrier roller analyses.
