Special features regarding teaching

Wide range of courses (Automotive Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Process Engineering, Product Development, Design and Motive Power Engineering, Material Engineering and Assembling Techniques, Closed-Loop Control and many more); e-learning is available in some cases (e.g. through (sound) recording of lectures); direct link to professional practice thanks to practical courses, excursions and use of external practitioners.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Contacts with approx. 20 partner universities all over the world; cooperative study programmes with universities in Egypt and China.

Special features regarding the equipment

Extensive high-grade technical equipment is available in many research areas (Automotive Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Process Engineering, Product Development, Design and Motive Power Engineering, Material Engineering and Assembling Techniques, Closed-Loop Control and many more). This is not only used for research purposes, but also by students for practical training. The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering also has its own central workshop where it can manufacture many parts itself.

Special features regarding research activities

Logistics: additive manufacturing processes in the Direct Manufacturing Research Center (DMRC); Institute for Lightweight Design with Hybrid Systems (ILH); "Kompetenzzentrum für nachhaltige Energietechnik" (Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Energy Engineering, KET); Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology (IPT); participation in the Collaborative Research Centre "Self-Optimizing Concepts and Structures in Mechanical Engineering"; participation in the Collaborative Research Centre "Process-integrated Manufacturing of Functionally Graded Structures Based on Coupled Thermo-mechanical Phenomena"; participation in the Fortschrittskolleg (Advanced Research Group) "Light - Efficient - Mobile" (LEM); participation in the IT'S OWL leading-edge cluster
