Special features regarding teaching

Studying in the heart of Würzburg with a wide range of teaching formats and content. In particular, professional skills are taught in small groups and sometimes in specially developed interprofessional teaching. Other special features includes: Tutoring programmes, practice projects, excursions, elective courses and specialisation options, collaboration with local and national cooperation partners, practical research projects, attractive exchange programmes with universities abroad, certified online teaching and international Blended Intensive Programmes in the elective courses.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Intercultural skills and an international orientation are central components of the course. The internationalisation strategy systematically defines goals and measures. The special features include: Internationally oriented English-language Master's degree course with a compulsory international component, annual International Teaching Week, internationalization@home measures, numerous international (Erasmus) partner universities and visiting lecturers, lecturers with internationally oriented research activities, excursions abroad, lecturer mobility.

Special features regarding the equipment

High-quality technical equipment in all classrooms; Extensive literature on social work and its reference sciences (including databases, e-books and online journals); stock is continually added to in collaboration with the library management; IT service centres for student advice; University media centre with TV and radio studios as well as extensive lending options; Modern online conference software, e-learning and internet-based infoboard.

Special features regarding research activities

The collaboration between professors from different disciplines with different research focus areas makes it possible to work on questions from different perspectives. Since 2019, research activities have been pooled under the umbrella structure of the research institute IFAS and focused on the four centres Health, Science Social Work, International Social Work and Digital Transformation. About 15 research projects are currently being carried out and more than 10 doctorates are being supervised.

Support for founders

The university-wide project EntrepreneurSHIP networks, advises and supports prospective entrepreneurs. It offers special lecture series, events, funding programmes and networks. A promoter from the faculty supports and advises on start-up processes within this service. Courses within the degree courses, e.g. on Financial and Human Resource Management, on IT use and supervision of final theses in the field of entrepreneurship round off the programme.

Other special features

The strong feeling of community among students is reflected in the great commitment by the departmental student body and the student representatives as well as the participation of students in working groups across status groups. The faculty has a guideline for the promotion of a diversity-sensitive faculty, which includes an advisory board with student participation. Special themed weeks (e.g. Human Rights Week), teaching projects to promote sustainable behaviour, “conceptathons” and events are regularly offered as part of the campus/community dialogue.
