Special features regarding teaching

Students are prepared for work in a variety of fields within Social Work. The theoretical, organisational and methodological knowledge that is taught is systematically converted into specialist practical knowledge during the course of study. This also includes the acquisition of necessary legal, administrative and fiscal specialist knowledge.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Student mobility is expressly encouraged by the faculty of Social Work of the University of Landshut by way of semesters abroad (work placement or academic semester). Regular teacher and student exchange with cooperating European universities and study trips to various countries are part of the programme to allow for familiarisation with social work at the international level. The Faculty of Social Work has been a member of the European network “European Research Institute in Social Work” since 2011.

The department has modern teaching facilities as well as a separate study room for students. The library is open 24 hours a day. The following subject-specific databases are available to students: Beltz Juventa eBooks, Beltz Juventa eJournals, Springer Link books and journals.

Special features regarding research activities

The faculty teaching staff have strong networks in academia and practice in their respective fields of specialism and are regularly asked to provide consulting and advisory services to social institutions, associations, churches, foundations, ministries and unions. In the research focus area "Social Change and Cohesion" and the resulting IKON Research Institute, the teaching staff work with research assistants to conduct several larger-scale research projects.

Support for founders

The Faculty of Social Work explicitly supports students and graduates in putting their entrepreneurial ideas in the field of social work into practice. These individuals are supported by the Start-up Ambassador in the Faculty of Social Work, who is in close contact with the Start-up Centre of Landshut University of Applied Sciences. In information events, presentations of best practice examples for start-ups and advice, students are supported in developing ideas and bringing them to life.

Other special features

In its mission statement, Landshut University of Applied Sciences attaches great importance to diversity, sustainability, application-oriented teaching, lifelong learning, research and transfer, international networking, digitalisation and regional responsibility. The Faculty of Social Work also embraces these topics. For this purpose, various strategies, guidelines and concepts are developed in the form of working groups, which are integrated into teaching and implemented when dealing with students and in the administrative organisation.
