Special features regarding teaching

The degree in the field of Information Systems is broadly and flexibly combinable and comprises the three main areas of focus: Information Systems, Computer Science and Economics The focus here is on application- and practice-oriented education (e.g. integration of guest speakers, use of research labs in courses (especially in the Master's degree in Business Information Systems), compulsory work placements, exercises and seminars).

Special features regarding the international orientation

Students in the field of Business Informatics have the opportunity to spend part of their studies at one of the foreign exchange universities. Furthermore, the field of Business Informatics is involved in international research projects and regularly organizes international research conferences in the field of Business Informatics and Computer Science, some of which also include special submission formats for students.

Special features regarding the equipment

The three computer clusters of the faculty in addition to the clusters of the data centre enable application-oriented and software-related training (e.g. in SAP, MicroStrategy, Salesforce, Signavio). Additional laboratories with specialised software and hardware equipment (e.g. Social CRM Laboratory, Logistics Living Lab, Virtual Reality Laboratory, Smart Energy Living Lab) support teaching and research. Furthermore, numerous software products (e.g. MS Office, Citavi, Matlab, Simulink) are available for students to use freely.

Special features regarding research activities

The Department of Information Systems is involved in numerous research projects with a wide range of topics. This applies to research content from a professional user perspective (e.g. digital innovations in finance, health, logistics and publishing, human-technology interaction and social CRM, design of energy systems and marketplaces) as well as from the IT area (sensor integration and data analysis, artificial intelligence and machine learning, Big Data, 3D software visualisation, Blockchain).

Support for founders

Assistance and active support for business start-ups (e.g. within the framework of EXIST start-up grants) by the professorships.
