True to the slogan, "we focus on students", the University of Applied Sciences Dortmund puts students' interests first. In line with this principle, lecturers at the university of applied sciences follow an "open door policy" and are generally always available to students. Cooperation with the Intercultural Academy of the Auslandsgesellschaft Deutschland e.V. recognised according to the NRW Further Education law: Foreign language courses at 5 levels according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) in 25 languages as well as internationally recognised language tests. The broad-based research in the Faculty of Computer Science often takes a networked and interdisciplinary approach. The central academic institution IDiAL (Institute for the Digital Transformation of Application and Living Domains) is predominantly staffed by professors from the faculty. Here, application-oriented digital solutions for the region are developed. In the German Research Foundation (DFG) Research Training Group WissPerMed, questions from medical informatics are dealt with in cooperation with Essen University Hospital.
