Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

Well-founded introduction on the basis of preparatory courses, methodological introductions, introductory lectures in the sub-areas. There are also numerous specialisation options in sociology and international guest lectures in all sub-disciplines of the subject. Research applications and simulation games make it possible to combine theory and (research) practice. The aim of the teaching is the communication of content-based and methodological skills as well as the ability to work independently in accordance with scientific principles and to reflect critically on social contexts.

Special features regarding teaching in the master's programmes

Well-founded introduction through lecture series. In addition, there are numerous research-oriented specialisation options in sociology, too, and international guest lectures in all sub-disciplines of the subject/subject area. Research internships and simulation games make it possible to combine theory and (research) practice. The aim of the teaching is to provide theoretical, analytical, and methodological skills as well as the ability to work independently on the basis of scientific principles and to reflect critically on social contexts.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The department's own Office of International Affairs coordinates internationalisation activities, especially in the areas of academic studies and teaching. Students and doctoral candidates receive subject-related information and advice on studying and doing an internship abroad. In addition to a purely English-language Master's degree, the faculty offers a large number of courses as well as preparatory English language courses for social scientists. Guest scientists from renowned foreign universities are regularly involved in the range of courses.

Special features regarding the equipment

"Germany's most beautiful campus" offers the most modern study conditions in the heart of Frankfurt. In the computer pools, students can use various software for data analysis and evaluation in courses, independently or under the guidance of tutors, including Stata, MAXQDA, SPSS, R, RStudio, Tinn-R, fsQca, UCINET and NetDraw. The social sciences library offers an extensive range of political science databases from all sub-disciplines and provides numerous specialized databases for extensive research.

Special features regarding research activities

The Frankfurter Institut für Politikwissenschaft (Frankfurt Institute for Political Science) is characterised in its research by its combination of diversity and quality, which is unique in Germany. This is made clear by the outstanding contributions to publications as well from the strength of third-party funding of the Institute. The research focuses extend across all sub-areas of the subject, with a particular weighting on the topics of " Competing International Governance", "Justice and Legitimacy in a Transnational Perspective", "Comparative Democracy Research" and "Comparative Capitalism Research"
