Special features regarding research activities

Numerous (third-party funded) projects are carried out at the IfP: Municipal utilities; Public goods relevant to the common good; Cohesion through security? Discourses, interactions and practices of European cohesion in the field of security; Transformation of violence-centred masculinities after armed conflict; The struggle for international order: arms control in the United Nations system; Turkish foreign policy; Freedom of movement and social policy in historical and international comparison; Transformative potential of rights of nature; Regulating return migration.

Other special features

The institute has been in existence since 1952; it is one of the most renowned in Germany. Teaching is based on theory and methodology training which is empirically-oriented, but also theory-related and pluralist. The IfP maintains a "welcome culture" and provides a friendly atmosphere. The distances between students and lecturers are short. Just as for the POLIS sponsorship association, the departmental student organisation is intensively involved in the work of the Institute. An active contribution is made to greater diversity through increasing internationalisation of the degree programmes.
