Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

In the bachelor's degree course, there is a wide range of interdisciplinary offerings and events from adjacent disciplines; In the Master's degree course, there is a four-pillar structure: "Intellectual History", "Political Systems in the Past and Present", "Power Shifts and Security Policy Challenges", and "Political Consulting".

Special features regarding teaching in the master's programmes

The degree course strengthens students' individual political science profiles. It focuses on the history of ideas and intellectual history, the theory of political systems, Germany and Europe in the international system, and comparative government theory. Modules from sociology, history, German studies, European studies, and psychology can also be included. Students develop their own project ideas during the research-focused discussion.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The institute supports any number of semesters abroad. In order to ensure a high recognition rate of credits earned abroad, students are advised on the time, duration, prerequisite, and financing of their stay abroad and any programmes. International researchers and political actors are hosted regularly. The institute regularly and successfully participates in the National Model United Nations in New York.

Other special features

The Institute of Political Science at the TU Chemnitz is part of the Faculty of Philosophy. There are four chairs belonging to the institute: Political Theory and History of Ideas / Political Systems, Political Institutions / International Politics / Comparing European Systems of Government as well as the junior professorship in Political Science Research Methods. In this way, Political Science at Chemnitz enables practice and research-related training in professionally qualifying degree courses, which also demonstrate a highly inter-disciplinary approach.
