The courses offered at the institute are characterised by the close integration of research and teaching. In addition to learning the basics of the subject matter, students can deepen their knowledge in the areas where the lecturers conduct their research. As a result, the courses are closely intertwined with research and involve the latest information. The groups are small, which makes it possible to provide students with a significant amount of support.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The Institute maintains a number of international exchange programmes. This of course includes an emphasis on Scandinavian and Baltic countries, in line with the university's focus. The university also maintains an especially active exchange with France and Spain. The university is funding the current project "Internationalisation at home": English-language seminars are offered for all modules in the BA and MA programmes. In addition, international researchers visit the institute on a regular basis, which enables an intensive professional dialogue.

Special features regarding research activities

The Political Science department in Greifswald has a strong research focus, and all of the chairs lead ongoing projects on various topics. Students are involved here as student assistants, in the context of seminars or practicals, which enables early participation in research practice. In addition, teaching and research are integrated through in-depth discussion of research results and methods during courses. The institute's small size ensures a certain synergy between research and teaching.

Other special features

A culture of discussion and a good staff/student ratio through events with max. 30 students; Double degrees in all BA programmes, which means a great many choices; It is possible to switch to BA-International during the course of studies; Professionally qualifying: 1. The current project called "Internationalisation at home", in the context of which international content and English-language teaching are integrated into the course; 2. The "Professional fields for political scientists" course that takes place twice a semester, at which institute alumni share practical tips for entering into a career.
