Special features regarding teaching

Basic, practically oriented, industry-related teaching and learning concepts including personal supervision by the professors. In two integrated, specially designed, interdisciplinary, inter-departmental project modules that are carried out in the second and fifth semesters in several teams of 2-8 students, students learn basic elements of modern project management methods with presentation, communication and creativity techniques. They learn to become familiar with a new topic in a team consistent with goals and to organise themselves responsibly.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The department works internationally, e.g. with two summer schools: "Mobile Autonomous Robotic - ROS" as well as "3D Printing". In addition to international partner universities, there are various international university projects It is also possible to take double degrees with Tongij University in Shanghai (China), with CIDESI (Mexico) and with Tecnológico de Monterrey (Mexico).

Special features regarding the equipment

The laboratories involved in the Mechanical Engineering subject groups are all very well equipped and reflect the current state-of-the-art.

Special features regarding research and development

The students are regularly involved in research and developed projects. The focus areas include Innovative Assembling Technology, Rapid Prototyping with the Laser Internal research group, E-Mobility – SME Production Net as well as projects involving the field of Medical Technology.

Support for founders

The "Entrepreneur Seminar" is an optional course from the 5th semester onwards and mainly deals with questions of business management and company start-ups. This cross-departmental optional course which is offered jointly with the economics department is very popular with students.

Other special features

Possibility of training to become a welding engineer in cooperation with the BGE Aachen training centre and with the German association for welding (DVS; Possible to train as a quality representative in cooperation with the TÜV; Needs-based, target group-specific support in mathematical principles during the first two semesters.
