Admission requirements

The entry-level and subject-specific admission requirements for the Master of Education teaching qualification at grammar schools and comprehensive schools are fulfilled by applicants who 1. have completed a Bachelor's degree course or a comparable degree program, 2. continue the subjects chosen in one or more previous degree programs in the study programs 1 and 2 of the Master of Education Teaching degree program at grammar schools and comprehensive schools, 3. demonstrate at least 75 credit points for each subject selected in the subject (without inclusion of the thesis) in accordance with the subject-specific admission requirements specified in the subject-specific regulations, 4. demonstrate at least 14 CP in educational sciences, including at least one month of orientation internship as well as at least four weeks of extra-curricular or school-based professional field practical training according to § 7 of the LZV within the framework of a Bachelor's degree program, 5. demonstrate a bachelor's thesis worth at least 10 credits as well as 6. have total credits that are relevant for admission to the Master's degree program in accordance with Section 3-5, amounting to at least 180 credits, if applicable also deducting benefits that are credited to the Master's program, of which at least 31 credits are to be awarded at a university, an art or music college or at the Deutschen Sporthochschule Köln. For the subjects of Art and Sport, there must also be a clearly defined separate grade for subject-related practical Bachelor's studies. This is an admission requirement. The submission of evidence of these graded accomplishments is assessed as part of the course and subject-specific admission requirements. For admission to the Master's degree course, knowledge of 2 foreign languages must also be demonstrated, generally with a qualification for admission to higher education. Applicants with a first language other than German who have gained their qualification for admission to higher education in German only need to provide proof that they are competent in one other language (at least level A2 on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). For admission to the degree course variants English, French, History and Spanish, proof of the Latinum (Latin language examination) must be provided. For admission to the degree course variant in Philosophy, proof of the Latinum or Graecum (Latin or Greek language examination) must be provided. For admission to the degree course variant in Latin, proof of the Latinum and Graecum (Latin and Greek language examination) must be provided. For admission to the degree course variant in Protestant Religious Education, proof of the Graecum and either the Latinum or Hebraicum (Greek, Latin, Hebrew language examination) must be provided. For admission to the degree course variants English, French or Spanish and combinations of these degree courses, a minimum period of 3 months studying abroad must also be demonstrated. Stays abroad that have been completed before enrolment on the previous Bachelor's degree course can be recognised if the stay took place not more than six years ago at the time of enrolment on the Master of Education Teaching Qualification for Grammar Schools and Comprehensive Schools.
