Annotation

The subject of Musicology is historical and contemporary music, how it is structured, produced and received, as well as its social function. In particular, the course covers the following areas: - Systematic Musicology -- Historical Musicology - Applied Music Theory - Musicological Methods The focus of the Bachelor's degree course in Musicology at JLU is Systematic Music with its sub-disciplines of Music Psychology, Music Sociology, Music Aesthetics and Music Theory as well as the areas of Acoustics, Musical Instruments, Computerised and Electronic Music. Particular emphasis is placed on the inter-disciplinary consideration of music, for example with topics such as Music and Religion or Music and Science. Historical Musicology particularly covers the social history of music, which looks at the changing cultural-historical and political contexts of music and its theory as well as the history of composition and focuses on musical genres of the present day (New and Popular Music). The areas of Applied Music Theory and Musicological Methods ensure the necessary foundation for academic musical reflection.
