Annotation

The increasing importance of data for current and future developments has manifested itself in all sectors of the economy and public institutions. This is mainly due to the groundbreaking advances in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) in recent years. Central to this development are methods of machine learning that make it possible to identify and use patterns and structures in large and often complex data. Parallel to this, and in part mutually reinforcing, the closely related, interdisciplinary field of data science has established itself between computer science and statistics. New technologies and methods for the organisation and processing of data are continuously being developed and researched here. Particular challenges lie in the heterogeneity, size and high dynamics of the data volumes. The Bachelor's degree programme in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science aims to equip graduates with the technical and professional competencies to independently implement projects and tasks in all areas of AI and Data Science. The curriculum of the degree programme offers a comprehensive academic qualification for a subsequent Master's degree programme. It includes core areas of computer science as well as modules specifically geared towards AI and Data Science, which provide theoretical foundation and practical experience. The six-semester bachelor's degree programme includes seven modules fully focused on data science and AI, including modules on ethical challenges, statistical fundamentals, big data technologies, and machine learning fundamentals. Compulsory elective modules give students the opportunity to expand their profile, whether through specialised subjects from the fields of data science and AI or through modules in computer science. The Department of Computer Science offers numerous practice-oriented projects and starting points for theses, including application-oriented research projects in the field of medical informatics as well as laboratories such as the robotics laboratory and the dynamic driving simulator. Furthermore, the Department of Computer Science offers excellent opportunities for interdisciplinary projects with the Therapeutic Sciences located in the Department. A further aim is the preparation of students seeking further qualification for continuing their education with a Master's degree in Computer Science or the specialised Master's degree programme in "Artificial Intelligence and Data Science" at Trier University of Applied Sciences.
