Annotation

The aim of the degree course is to convey in-depth and specialised knowledge in information science through research and the acquisition of methodological skills. A key component of the Master's degree programme is increasingly independent scientific work to acquire the ability to assess new problems in a methodologically reflective manner. In face-to-face teaching, virtual teaching and a high proportion of self-study as well as in intensive research seminars and projects individually and together with others, students acquire the skills that enable them to work in a wide variety of organisations in the public and commercial information sector (e.g. libraries, information infrastructure institutions, information service providers, etc.) or in science. The Master's degree programme at the Humboldt University of Berlin also offers the opportunity to work on interdisciplinary issues. The degree course focuses in particular on topics such as the optimisation of information processes and the development, design and analysis of digital information infrastructures and web-based information systems. It establishes skills in data analysis and processing, in the design and analysis of human-machine interactions, in knowledge and information management, in information communication and scientific communication in digital information environments. Successful completion of the degree course qualifies students for professional tasks in a diversified information landscape as well as in research and development in the information sector, particularly for tasks in public and commercial information service provision or information infrastructure organisations, in the higher-level library service as well as in information science research and teaching.
