Area of study
Jewish Studies
Target group
As a humanities subject, Jewish Studies involves reflection on the basic cultural principles of society on a large as well as on a small scale. The aim of a humanities scholar is mainly to understand, to explain and finally to mediate: between groups, individuals and society. These processes require a precise methodical foundation and progressive critical observation with competence in the basic principles, a sense for detail and a view of the whole issue in its individuality and in context. As a European centre of competence in this area, the Hochschule für Jüdische Studien (HfJS) offers opportunities for in-depth study and comprehension not available elsewhere, and is therefore particularly attractive for students wishing to gain a Master in Jewish Studies.
Admission requirements
Admission requirements for the major field of study are the Allgemeine Hochschulreife (general university entrance qualification) or a comparable degree, as well as a completed bachelor's degree in Jewish Studies with a subject content of at least 50% or in courses of study with essentially the same content, and proof of the Hebraicum. In the main subject 100 credit points are completed at the HfJS and 20 credit points in the accompanying subject at the University of Heidelberg. Further details are regulated by the admission regulations and the examination regulations for the M.A. degree in Jewish Studies. A consecutive Master's degree course with restricted admissions. An application is required before enrolment can be applied for.
