Admission requirements for the Master's degree are a German or equivalent foreign qualification from a university degree in Theatre studies, dance studies, film studies, art studies, literary studies or cultural studies with a degree of at least 30 credit points in the field of Theatre Studies, Dance Studies or Film Studies. Applicants who have completed their studies at a foreign university or comparable institution must be able to prove their knowledge of German. This can be demonstrated by passing the German Language Examination for University Entrance (DSH) or by demonstrating an equivalent level of proficiency according to the Regulations for the German Language Examination for University Entrance of Foreign Applicants at Freie Universität Berlin.

The equivalence of proof provided is determined by the board of examiners in charge of the Master's programme of the Department of Philosophy and Humanities at the Free University of Berlin.
