The consecutive Master's course is a scientific course of study leading to an additional professionally qualifying degree based on the first professionally qualifying degree. It aims to teach in-depth scientific specialist knowledge in the disciplines of Training and Movement Studies, Sports Sociology and Sports Economics, Physical Education Theory, Sports Psychology and Sports Medicine. In the profile B with the title Health Promotion and Therapy through Sport, specialist knowledge in the field of the prevention and rehabilitation of diseases of civilisations, sport injuries and selected neurological and mental disorders is taught. The students acquire in-depth indication-based methodological skills in the conception, implementation and evaluation of specialist internistic, orthopaedic, neurological and psychosomatic rehabilitation programmes for various groups of test people and/or patients as well as for individuals. The course focuses on the promotion of health, the support of health-conscious behaviour and the improvement of quality of life through health sports and sport therapy, considering demographic change and the increase of degenerative and chronic diseases. The knowledge and skills gained as part of specialisation B also enable students to acquire LSB (State Sport Association) licences within the 2nd Licence level in the profiles of Posture and Movement and Cardiac Cycle in the field of Prevention, as well as Sport in Cardiac Groups from the field of Rehabilitation. Furthermore, the course content of profile B is recognised for the acquisition of an additional qualification in Sport and Movement Therapy DVGS

Annotation

If the Bachelor degree certificate is not available by the application deadline, but at least 135 credit points can be demonstrated: Submit a certificate of study and examinations and the average grade achieved so far. (This certificate must be issued by the relevant higher education, original or officially authenticated copy). After enrolment, the diploma must be submitted. If the degree was obtained abroad: officially authenticated copy of a certificate of recognition (responsible: Student Service - Admission International).

Admission requirements

A requirement for admission is evidence of a Bachelor's degree in Sports Science (BA or BSc) or a teaching-related Bachelor's degree with the specialisation Teaching Qualification for Grammar Schools with the subject of Sports as one of the two subjects or a very similar degree from a university in Germany or abroad. Applicants who obtained neither their higher education entrance qualification at a German institution nor a degree in a course conducted in German must provide evidence of German proficiency at the level of the “German Language Test for Admission to Higher Education for Foreign Students” (DSH).

    Those who have obtained their higher education entrance qualification abroad should have their certificates recognised early on via the Student Services (https://www.studium.uni-mainz.de/anerkennung). The application should be submitted six to eight weeks before the respective application deadline, as the certificate of recognition must be attached to the application. Application deadline for degree courses subject to an aptitude test is 15.01. – please note the possibly earlier registration deadlines for the aptitude test.
