Annotation

The research-oriented degree course in Language – Media – Society combines a cultural-scientific and comparative perspective on language and mediality in their social conditionality with a focus on Europe. The degree course addresses various communication contexts (everyday life, institutions, audio-visual media), communicative and aesthetic practices (oral and written, monomodal and multimodal, analogue and digital), forms of discourse (everyday conversation, text, audio-visuality, political and public discourse) and societal structures (power relations, affiliations and diversity). The focus is particularly on the use and medialities of different languages and language varieties in Europe. Aspects of intercultural communication are dealt with against the background of linguistic diversity, multilingualism and culturally varying language structures and forms of communication. With their specialised knowledge, methodological skills and in-depth language skills in at least two foreign languages, graduates of the Master's degree course have access to a wide range of professional activities. The Master's degree programme "Language - Media - Society" prepares students for communication-intensive professional fields with a European or international orientation, including media work in the European and international arena, international journalism, public relations in international institutions, NGOs, cultural institutions, university and science management, intercultural didactics, academic professions, research or doctoral studies. International double Master's degree 'Multimodality – Discourse – Media' (MuDiM) in cooperation with the Université Sorbonne Nouvelle – Paris 3 The MuDiM is a study option of the Master "Language – Media – Society" of Viadrina and a course type of the "Master Recherche Mention Langues, Littératures et Civilisations Étrangères et Régionales" (LLCER) of the Université Sorbonne Nouvelle Paris 3. The subject of the double master's degree is multimodal and media forms of discourse. This includes audiovisual media as well as linguistic-gestural communication (TEU), multimedia aspects of written and oral language use in various discourse environments (advertising, illustration, image titles) as well as the analysis of multimodal interaction in everyday language use (Paris 3). The languages of instruction are German and French (proof of knowledge must be provided). International Double Master "Intercultural Communication" (MICS) in cooperation with the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań The MICS has a special focus on issues of intercultural communication, especially with regard to the Central and Eastern European region. This focus results from an in-depth treatment of the compulsory elective module "Intercultural Communication", which can also be studied directly at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. Another component of the double degree is learning of the Polish at the level of UNIcert. The "Intercultural Communication" module is conducted primarily in English in cooperation with the Adam Mickiewicz University of Poznań.
