The Master's degree course is directed at Music and Arts graduates wishing to research and develop artistically formative, compositional intentions in highly advanced studies focusing on the spatial and intermediate strategies of composition. The course is based on the latest developments in an intermediate understanding of music and art, which has emerged in the past two decades. Here currents of new music, electronic composition, sound art, audiovisual art and radiophonic art, so-called Ars Acustica, focus on one thematic unit. At the highest artistic level, compositional approaches with a focus on spatial and intermediate composition strategies are researched and developed. This includes the development of surround sound or sound installations as well as performative concepts or media representations.
Annotation
Applications are made via the Admission Office of the University Mainz. Registration for the aptitude test is via the University of Music. If the Bachelor degree certificate is not available by the application deadline, but at least 135 credit points can be demonstrated: Submit a certificate of study and examinations and the average grade achieved so far. (This certificate must be issued by the relevant higher education, original or officially authenticated copy). After enrolment, the diploma must be submitted. If the degree was obtained abroad: officially authenticated copy of a certificate of recognition (responsible: Student Service - Admission International).
Admission requirements
Pass the aptitude test (see https://www.musik.uni-mainz.de/studium/bewerbung/), Bachelor's degree in music or a degree from a university in Germany or abroad, to which there is no significant difference Bachelor's degree in art or a degree from a university in Germany or abroad, to which there is no significant difference. If there is a high level of artistic competence, as determined by the aptitude test, applicants who have completed another course of study can also be admitted. knowledge of the English Language Applicants who obtained neither their higher education entrance qualification at a German-speaking institution nor a degree in a course conducted in German must provide evidence of sufficient German language proficiency (comparable to level A1 CEFR).
