Tomorrow's mobility is a key factor for the future viability of regions. The degree course in Digital Railway Systems is aimed at prospective students who are fascinated by mobility and digitalisation in the context of railway systems. The know-how of four regional higher education institutions (the Universities of Bielefeld and Paderborn, the OWL Technical University and Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences) is merged in this degree course. Another special feature is the study location on the grounds of DB Systemtechnik in Minden (OWL RailCampus). Companies are looking for specialists in the fields of Engineering and Computer Science; competent employees are particularly in high demand in the area of mobility. Focus is on the digitalisation of railway systems, which is intended to sustainably improve the availability of mobility. The ever-increasing proportion of information processing in railway technology systems, particularly the constantly growing number of data processing components, requires engineers with a very good knowledge of electronic automation and control technology as well as of computer science and digitalisation. The degree course in Digital Railway Systems trains engineers for these requirements in different industrial sectors. The companies involved in the OWL RailCampus support the students through a wide range of cooperation opportunities. In conducting the degree course, care is taken when planning the courses to ensure that the students of the respective cohort are offered courses on four days a week and that the fifth day remains free. This enables more extensive work within a company. Extensive research activities in which the students are involved are additionally undertaken at the OWL RailCampus. The main fields of activity for graduates therefore include suppliers of railway systems, railway operations, train and wagon manufacturers, manufacturers of control and safety systems in the railway sector, licensing and testing bodies as well as other mobility providers/service providers in the logistics sector. Relevant employers also include the companies involved in the OWL RailCampus.
