Annotation

Working on irreplaceable works of art calls for the scientific and practical competence of restorers time and again. The study of Art Technology, Conservation and Restoration of Artistic and Cultural Assets at Dresden University of Fine Arts optimally prepares students for these challenges through its comprehensive, scientifically based and at the same time highly practice-oriented courses. The Restoration degree course gains its Europe-wide appeal through an innovative study programme and state-of-the-art studios and laboratories for research and teaching. The undergraduate five-year course also meets the requirements of the European specialist organisations E.C.C.O. and ENCoRE and leads directly to the Diploma degree, which is equivalent to the Master's degree. The degree course responds to the constantly growing demands of the restoration profession through a scientifically oriented range of subjects. In addition to the core subjects of conservation science and art technology, subject-specific natural science and science of art foundations are taught. Special emphasis is placed on the ability for interdisciplinary cooperation in the professional field of the restorer. The second pillar of the degree is the practical teaching of the study, conservation and restoration of original works of art. External work placements, summer schools and other projects on site support the studio teaching in the university.
